Sally James on Tiswas

Sally James talks to Graham Laycock about her days on TISWAS recalling her almost legendary interviews with the pop stars featured on the cult 70s and 80s Saturday morning tv show and the recently released The TISWAS Album which includes The Bucket of Water Song by the Four Bucketeers.
Sally James presents her monthly Business Affairs programme for and about local businesses in North Surrey on Brooklands FM on Fridays 12.30pm to 2.0pm and previous editions can be heard on our Business Affairs page.

 

Light Up a Life Service

WSB LogoA recording of the Light Up a Life service that took place at St. John’s Church, West Byfleet on 6th December. It was organised by the Woking and Sam Beare Weybridge Hospices to bring the community together in remembrance and celebration.

 

Queens Road Weybridge Event

Trudi Austin and Lance England attended the special evening held by the retailers in Queens Road, Weybridge. The event held on November 25th highlighted the many excellent shops in Queens Road and raised money for the Sam Beare Hospice. Lance spoke to Nicole Liew Sorley , owner of "White Orchid" who organised the event, Lisa Harris from the "Inspiration Beauty Spa" and to TV presenter Ruth Langsford who switched on the Queens Road Christmas Tree lights. There was also Christmas organ music in the United Reform Church played by Angela Noble.


Rotary Youth Speaks Competition

American Women of Surrey Gift Fayre

AWS LogoAmerican Women of Surrey Gift Fayre held on Tuesday 10 November 2009 at the Hilton Hotel in Cobham supporting local charities: Momentum (Kingston), Home-Start (Woking), Action for Carers Surrey, Leatherhead Night Hostel and The Federation of American Womens Clubs Overseas. Trudi Austin, Celia Jones and David Durant talk to those taking part including Julie Lischner and Carmen Lopez Folan from AWS and The Mayor of Embridge, Councillor James Vickers.

The Soldiers

The SoldiersStu Edwards talks to The Soldiers - Sergeant Major Gary Chilton, Sergeant Richie Maddocks and Lance Corporal Ryan Idzi. The Soldiers visited Sam Beare Hospice on 15th November and are raising money for the Army Benevolent Fund, Help For Heroes and The Royal British Legion with their debut album "Coming Home".

 

 

Timothy Knapman - Childrens' Writer

Timothy Knpman LogoAnne Aldred talks to Timothy Knapman, a local children’s writer and has had his work read on BBC CBeebies. Since studying history at Oxford he has spent his time writing plays, opera libretti, song lyrics and children’s books. Mungo and the Picture Book Pirates, Mungo and the Spiders from Space and Mungo and The Dinosaur Island are just some of his story books.

 

BACCES - British Airways Cabin Crew Entertainment Society

Ali Baba boarding flightVictoria Madden, Alison Chandler, David Bowditch and Victoria Hogkin talk to Stu Edwards about the society and their Christmas pantomime which has been staged for the past 38 years to raise money for charity and this year's is on from 1st to 6th December at the Beck Theatre in Hayes.

Amy Hatton talks to BFM's Graham Laycock about the work of the UK charity that provides vital support services and equipment for people with disabilities and is the chosen charity of The Mayor of Elmbridge Cllr James Vickers for 2009-10. The Mayor is working with Newlife to launch a new equipment fund for disabled children in Elmbridge.

Anne Aldred talks to Ted Sparkes who cares for his wife who has multiple sclerosis and finds out about the charity Surrey Crossroads that provides a carer each week so he can have some time for himself which he uses as a volunteer at Brooklands Museum.

The Mercedes Kinderclass Driving Experience has been created to teach safe driving with children in the car. Lance England and David Durant covered the launch day and David spoke to Rob Durrant and Ruth Pucci about the event.

A Midsummer Night's Dream by the Ember Players

The Ember PlayersCheryl St. George, whose productions of “The Door” and “The Rape of Lucrece” brought Ember a total of five awards in the 2005 and 2006 Woking Drama Festivals, is meeting the challenge with a characteristically ambitious and original production of Shakespeare`s enchanting comedy “A Midsummer Night's Dream”. She has chosen to set the play in the 1950s, taking James Dean, New York diners and rock `n` roll as her inspiration.

Sky-Dive for Charity

Gareth Kimble is 26-years-old and spent much of his childhood in Great Ormond Street Hospital. He is doing a charity sky dive on 31st May to raise money for the hospital and to show his gratitude for what they did for him. John Cull spoke to him.

Byfleet Care

Byfleet Care LogoByfleet Care - also known as Byfleet Community Action - is a neighbourhood care scheme that offers help to housebound, elderly or disabled residents of Byfleet and West Byfleet. Volunteers help with shopping, collection of prescriptions, transport to the Health Centre or other essential journeys.

The Surrey Association for Visual Impairment

Carol talks to Graham Laycock about the charity and the launch of their community event on the 10th March at Guildford College called Raise Your Glasses in honour of Louis Braille who was born 200 years ago and in 1821 devised the Braille system widely used by blind people to read and write. Absence of Sound - Shooting Star fundraiser

Local band Absence of Sound played a charity gig at Rydens School in aid of the Shooting Star Children's Hospice.

There was a lot of energy and much applause - and a good time had by all. Over £700 was raised, smashing the £500 target. Listen to the band talking to BFM's Lance England:

Challenging Brass

Brass BandThe Challenging Brass Concert was held at the Addlestone Community Centre on 21st September 2008. The concert saw four bands - Staines Lammas, Cobham & District Band, Godalming Band, and Mole Valley Band, competing for the audience's support and to impress the adjudicator, Major (Rtd) Calum Gray.
